Celebrate!

Well, I have to admit that I am nervous to say this outloud, but I potty trained Maggie and it worked! Anyone who knows me knows that my experience with Hallie was, " less that desirable", so I vowed to wait until Maggie was 4 to even try! But since she was basically potty training herself, I decided to support her in her efforts and it was a success! (At least I think) It has been a week and we have had successful outings and even made it through church accident free. I am so excited and wondering how I should spend the extra $50 a month!

Most of you know we are having a baby in July! We are so excited! Hallie has even set up toys in her room in anticipation, "just in case the baby comes today and wants to play in my room". It is so cute and I feel so bad that she has to wait until July. I feel so bad that I have to wait until July! And speaking of waiting. I must admit that I twinge with envy as the girls due only a week or two ahead of me are finding out what they are having. I have to wait until March 5! What a cruel joke! I will be 22 weeks. So I am desperately looking for a way to sneak in an early ultrasound. I have volunteered myself as a subject at Whitney's ultrasound tech school and have even located a fetal photo studio in Des Moines. If I opt for the fetal photo, my husband might get actually, really get mad ( for once). Any ideas?

Lastly, I have a new obsession. I really want a bunk bed type deal in my girl's room, but I have these weird fears about bunk beds. I worry about someone falling off the top and I worry about a child falling off the ladder and I even worry about the top bunk crashing down on someone's head. (Probably stems from sleeping on the bottom bunk with my brother above and hearing every little creak in the support beams). Anyway, I think I found an alternative. It is a bunk bed, but not nearly as high, with stairs instead of a ladder and no one's head under the top bunk. Sounds perfect! Only it is WAY out of our price range. So I have been trying to figure out how to get this bed. I found a guy in Craig's List who can build it for a third of the cost. Has anyone had experience with that? Would you recommend it or is that crazy? Also, do you think it would be too wierd to sleep with your head out in the middle of the room? Thoughts? Advice? I would appreciate any input! Here is a picture of the bed so that you can get the visual.

One more thing. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the space at the bottom of every post. It is really annoying and I can't get rid of it!

i didn't know you were expecting. how exciting, congrats! i am like you, so impatient to find out what i'm having. i have been very lucky though, i worked at an imaging center with an ultrasound machine. so with asher, that's how i found out i was pregnant at 6 weeks, then heard the heartbeat at 7.5, then found out he was a boy at 13.5 (yes, you can tell that early!!) and then had lots of uls throughout just for fun! with this one, i just called up my friend who i used to work with, and we found out at 14 weeks that it was another boy, which was confirmed at my 20 wk uls. i don't know what i'm going to do when we move away!

that bed seems perfect. i get kind of nervous with bunkbeds as well, falling off, ladders, etc. you should go with the guy who says he can build it. maybe just ask to see some of his work to make sure he can actually build stuff! :)

I love the three new posts!! Yeah! I also love, love, love the bunk bed. I think it is way better than a regular one b/c it has draws! Its worth a try to get it. As for the early ultra sound - um, you can always pretend you are contracting or something!!! I loved the pictures of you and Aaron. You guys are my heros - you are both too nice for your own good.

Have you looked at homemakers? They always have cute resonalbly priced funiture. I think the drawers underneather are always a good idea, espcially since we are all tight on space right now. I don't know what to tell you about the utrasound - coming up with complications is just not a good idea?!hahah

also if you hit deleate a lot of times at the bottom of your post maybe that will help -maybe you have some hard returns in there that you don't know about.?!

katie...so having a guy make it is a great idea. I had designed the crib I wanted for ella because I wasn't happy with the ones at target and walmart and the one I wanted was way too expensive at pottery barn kids. I had the plans and he was going to build it ...two days before he was going to start my parents emailed and told me they wanted to get the crib for my baby!! SCORE!! so i called the guy and just got the one i wanted at pottery barn kids. however, i would've TOTALLY gone with having someone make it ....especially because then you know it's handmade and the quality is usually better than store bought. I think those bunkbeds are AWESOME and I just might have to keep that picture for future references :)

I can't wait to find out what you're having. The wait totally sucks i know especially if you have friends around you finding out what they're having already...grr!! The fetal photo place is a total rip off (sorry but it's true)...I don't know what else to tell you since you've already signed up at whitney's school. It'll come fast (the day you find out)!

about the space at the end of your blog...i second what debbi said, also do you write your post under "compose" tab or the "html" tab? I always write mine in the html tab...if you write it in compose it often times adds tags and spaces...so try that and also at the end of your post hit the delete button a couple of times and see if it works.

sorry for the novel... :)

first of all katie I am truely SORRY that you have to wait until march 5, I would be upset if I had to wait that long too, hey at least maybe you will be able to see a lot more in the pics, and at least february is a short month :) My cousin that is due a week before me found out what she was having at 13 weeks!!! I was so ticked that I had to wait another whopping 7 weeks after her, but oh well. Can you go somewhere to get a 3-d ultrasound? Also about the bed, I am sure you are familiar with IKEA because you are from Cali.....I know they have bunk beds like that there, you can order online, and they are way cheaper than a lot of places, sometimes there products arent as durable but hey they all work. I would check it out!!

ok katie, heres the thing. I talked to my program chair about doing your ultra sound. They said they would scan on a pregnant woman and she could be a volunteer but ONLY if she's had a full prenatal exam first. I'm so sorry, I tried. I asked why and she said that one year she scanned on a woman who didn't have her full scan yet and she found multiple problems with the baby. she ended up saving the baby's life b/c they caught it so early but it created alot of contravercial (sorry about spelling) and ethical problems as well. THe school and hospital saying that it wasn't suppost to be her job to tell the mother what was going on and crap like that.

Hey I love your new background!!! Way cute! As you know we have bunk beds and I am scared to put Brooklyn on the top, but our beds come apart and can be two twin beds, so I think we will do that especially since we have a boy and a girl.

I love the beds, I am going to do some research when I have time becasue I have the same thing about bunk beds as you do, but that is really cute and I love the storage. I also thought of the beds that pull out from under the other bed, I forget the name but I might have to do that. Cute idea!

One more thing congratulations on Maggie. How did you do it, I just got Savannah trained?

Congratulations on the baby news! Pregnancy always seems to take forever, and then once their born everything speeds up to light speed and they turn into kids, that hardly need you, before you know it! It's so unfair!

I think the bed is cute! My boys sleep in a bunk bed and I think the most important thing about them is how well they are made. Most beds I see in the stores are not built that well. My test? If you pull on a side, does it move? is so- I would never buy it. I want a bed that doesn't budge at all. Sadly, most of them do.

You might be surprised with the builder from Craigs list. Sometimes those guys can make things way better in quality than anything store bought.
Does he have references you can contact? or things he's built that you can look at?

Good luck!

I don't know anything about keeping the cost down, but my goodness that's a cute bed! Do it, girlfriend!
And congrats on a new July baby! I didn't know! That's wonderful!
And...potty-training is the worst. Khi got the peep down pretty well but pooped in his underwear for about 3 months. Horrible! Changing poopie-underwear messes in a busy Disneyland restroom is an event to avoid at all costs. I'm about to confront this issue with Ava and I'm dreading it.

KATIE! I feel the same way about bunk beds... I am loving the idea of saving space, but I worry about them being too high. Where did you find that cute bed? It is PERFECT! What I've been thinking lately is maybe doing a trundle bed... check them out at Pottery Barn Kids for ideas. (No, I promise we don't shop there... but I love to dream!) You can roll the trundle under the other bed during the day, so it's out of the way... anyway, just an idea.
