My Advice- Take it or Leave it!

So after a sleepless night on Wednesday because of the weather, I decided that I should probably invest in a weather radio so that I wasn't lying there paranoid that we could blow away at any minute. After much searching, I found a store in the area that had not sold out of weather radios and bought one. I am so glad I did. Last night, Jennifer and I were hanging out talking and the alarm went off, letting us know that there was a tornado in our area. I must admit, we both FREAKED out. I grabbed the kids out of bed and put them in Laurie's closet downstairs. (Aaron was not home and I didn't want to be alone!) Thanks Kovacs. There was no tornado action in our neighborhood, but at least we knew and we were prepared. To all of my friends in the midwest- if you don't have one of theses radios, get one! In my opinion it is a must. The have them still at the Hyvee on Grand and they are only $30. Like I said, it is just my advice, so you can take it or leave it! By the way, to any seasoned Iowans, when does the bad weather end. I am thinking it is summer, we should be at the pool! Does that happen around here?

We got one the first year we were here. It's the red cross one. It's a flashlight and radio and can be charged by turning a lever if the batteries run out. The only annoying part of it is it goes off whenever there is any weather warning issued for your county ...which would mean that it would've gone off like 12 times last night! We just got it in case we didn't hear the sirens outside. It's still a good thing to have, just annoying when it goes off and the warning is for far away and now your kids and yourself are awake (does that make sense)?

We had the kids in the closet last night as well. They were freaking out because they had been in bed. We kept telling them we were having a party in the closet...that didn't go over as well as I thought it would.

Anyway, smart to have a radio if you live in the midwest FOR SURE!

ps to clarify...the reason it didn't go off last night is because we were both up. We turned it on at 1:30 when we finally went to sleep. It didn't go off after that (thank goodness).

I know what you mean! I have been thinking of getting a weather radio too, but haven't yet. I stay up way too late some nights becuase I can't go to bed until I know we are in the clear. Living in the midwest sure causes constant worry and stress for me due to the weather. I used to actually enjoy thinderstorms! Now I am scared silly!

oh my heck freakiness!! I was so freaked out last night that I seriously thought I was going to go into labor, Mitch kept saying breathe Cass I don't want to have to deliver a baby right now! My heart was racing and I was shaking! We hid under the stairs in that little closet. We have a weather radio but it doesn't go off automatically but I decided I am going to get one that does so I can sleep at night! What is this, our babies aren't even here yet and we are having sleepless nights!!!! Gotta love Iowa

I have one and I love it - my neighbor is using it now since I"m not there. We also have a little rubbermaid bin in the closet full of flashlights, batteries, some snacks and glow sticks, and a wind up radio. I'm kinda a freak. Glad you guys are all ok!

That's what I get for telling you I wasn't worried because we are ALWAYS under some kind of watch. Right after I tell you that I am sent into tremors with the alarm going off saying we will be having a tornado any second. Thanks for the GOOD laughs last night and girly talks and for filling the Janke's in on the need for a weather radio. Joseph said he even laughed at you for getting one yesterday. Open mouth - insert foot. Thanks for freaking out with me too and for making sure I didn't blow away while running home =)
